What is Avant-Garde?

The term avant-garde refers to innovative or experimental concepts or works, or the group of people producing them, especially in the arts. In French, avant-garde means the “vanguard” or the “advance guard” — basically the people and ideas that are ahead of their time.  

At Avant-Garde Dance Academy, LLC®  we know the dance industry is continuously changing. From TV to movies to books, the dance world has brought us new genres and techniques to learn from! We are here to enhance and promote these stylistic changes that have happened in dance recently. The dance studio industry is booming with amazing opportunities and has had a growth of 3% per year since 2015! Revenue was at $4 billion for the 2020 year and is expected to increase for 2021! What does this mean? CHILDREN WANT TO DANCE!  And dance is not only limited to children; many teens and adults love the art of dance.  Avant-Garde Dance Academy®  is the place to do that!

Our mission is to deliver quality instruction by providing dance classes for students beginning at four years old.  In the mindset of excellence, our studio offers diverse classes to students who wish to experience dance recreationally or professionally.  It is our primary goal to teach students the art of dance; additionally, we strive to inspire values such as self-discipline, strength of character, diligence, and resiliency.   

In 2011, Marisol was hosting a Salsa Workshop at the STC Wellness Center in Weslaco. Joe arrived to attend the workshop and he turned out to be the only one to take the class. When Marisol asked him "Do you have any dance experience?", Joe answered "No, not really." Well low and behold, Joe had several years of dance experience he was hiding!! Marisol was impressed! ♥ The class went well and it turned out that Marisol and Joe had actually taken a class together back in 2009, which was found out several years later! What a coincidence?!  Marisol and Joe share a mutual love for dance and have been turning on the dance floor ever since!
